The Nutshell ~ news of the week
Any and all news this week has been overshadowed by Britney’s conservatorship court hearing. The star took the stand to defend her rights and the situation is even more dire than previously thought: she can’t even remove her IUD without her conservators’ permission. Look at that: men controlling women’s bodies… surprised?

CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST - Tyler, The Creator / Review
Two years after the Grammy-winning IGOR, Tyler, The Creator has never sounded more aware that people are listening on CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST.
Standing straight as an arrow in a bellboy pink suit, Tyler, The Creator (Igor for the night) is clutching a salmon suitcase, seemingly awaiting a summons from Wes Anderson’s imagined Budapest Hotel. He kneels to clicking cameras and opens his luggage to reveal the outfit he would wear later that night. It’s the 62nd Grammys and the artist is the red carpet’s main attraction. Despite the scrutiny, one crucial detail goes mostly unnoticed: a tag on the suitcase’s handle reads “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST” in tiny lettering. Little did we know that eighteen months later, those words would be revealed as the title to Tyler’s seventh album.

To Enjoy is the Only Thing - Maple Glider / Review
Maple Glider (real name: Tori Zietsch) reaches far and wide across the emotional spectrum to deliver an unadorned and heartfelt performance on her debut To Enjoy is the Only Thing.
Melbourne-based Zietsch wrote the bulk of the album while living in Brighton and was more concerned with the intensity of feelings than life’s events’ worldly significance. To Enjoy is thematically wide-ranging yet undeniably personal: the gripping Weyes Blood-reminiscent ‘As Tradition’ embodies a sense of disassociation, anchoring its reference points in Zietsch’s religious upbringing; ‘Views From This Side’ is a gorgeous ode to intergenerational love and the cycle of life rooted in Zietsch’s own family ties; ‘Friend’ is a candid love letter to imperfect friendships with allusions to a former bandmate and stand-out ‘Good Thing’ is a retrospective on the end of a romantic relationship that permeates much of the album.

Just like the movies
With theatres opening back up I’ve done my fair share of catching up on major film releases and thought of giving short recs if you’re on the look-out for your next movie trip:
Cruella: it seems like the director and producers themselves don’t know who this movie is for. It’s got a major tone problem with childish banter alongside serious run-of-the-mill traumatizing shit. Gotta love the fashion though. LOVE the fashion.
Minari: Go see it. One of the best of the year. The movie in three words: love is enough.
Gagarine: A lot of heart in this one and even if the execution sometimes falls short of expectations, it’s still a gorgeous film.
Charlatan: gay biopic. A lot of pee in this movie, don’t be too hydrated.
