The Nutshell ~ news of the week

• The world is literally on fire and we’re all acting like it’s business as usual.

• RAYE broke down on Twitter about her frustrations with her label who won’t let her release a debut album despite all the smash hits she’s put forward so far.

• Lana Del Rey has delayed Blue Banisters because what is a LDR rollout if not distilled chaos in a dusty perfume bottle.

• Courtney Love came after Olivia Rodrigo over some artwork that they both stole from Carrie. Rodrigo played it as a joke but Love doubled down. Messy.

Track of the week: 1000 Nights - Jaykae (feat. Jorja Smith)

Jorja Smith isn’t particularly precious about her collaborations: there’s already plenty out there, only three years since her debut full-length. Somehow she still always gets it right, tapping some of the UK’s most exciting up-and-comers. ‘1000 Nights’ feels like ‘Blue Lights’ part II, more uptempo, as poignant.

Runner-up: Renegade - Big Red Machine (feat. Taylor Swift)

It’s Big Red Machine season. The Vernon-Dessner project announced an album set for release in late August. Plenty of collabs to expect, including two Taylor Swift cuts. ‘Renegade’ is the first of the two. In it, Taylor asks: “Is it really your anxiety that’s stopping you from giving me everything? Or do you just not want to?” Oof.

i remember when i was 6, i got ahold of my dad’s ID & it had an expiration date. spent 3 hours crying because I thought that he was set to die on that date. he asked me why i was crying and i didn’t tell him bcuz i was scared he was gonna cry as well
